‘Unusual fire? causes damage to Kern home

Homeowners on Kern Road returned home early July 29 to find their house giving off smoke, in what Orion Township Fire Chief Jeff Key called ‘a very unusual fire.?
Key said no one was injured in the early-Saturday morning incident, at the two-story farmhouse at 3750 Kern.
Both Oakland County Sheriff’s Department deputies and the fire department responded to the scene, just after 1:30 a.m.
‘It appears that the fire started around the stove,? Key said, noting that a fire investigator would eventually give conformation.
‘It burned a hole into the basement and up through the roof,? he said.
Key added that it is strange for a fire to go straight up and down, but nonetheless he believes it was probably an accidental fire.
?(The fire) substantially damaged the house,? he said, adding that most of the damage can probably be repaired.
