For many students, the desite to learn about art goes beyond what can fit into a single class.
With few opportunities for students to study art outside of school, Claudia Keglovitz, art teacher at Clarkston Junior High School, ran a summer art program from July 17-21. The year was the fourth time she has run the camp and said she plans to continue next year. Along with Bailey Smith, an art student at the College for Creative Studies, Keglovitz works with a small group of students allowing them to explore a variety of mediums for creative expression.
‘My philosophy as a teacher is every single person has a gift and is able to express themselves,? Keglovitz said. ‘My job is to help them express themselves.?
During the five-day summer art camp, students worked with styles such as charcoal, acrylic paint and colored pencil. At the end of the week, students showed off their finished projects for their family and friends in a limited art show.
