Goodrich icers fall to Nouvel; Hawkins scores four in 9-0 shutout of LakeVille

Goodrich’s hockey teams experienced both sides of a blowout in back-to-back games Jan. 7-8.
One day after the Martians shut out LakeVille 9-0, Goodrich suffered a 6-1 setback at the hands of Saginaw Nouvel in non-league action. The Martians are currently 7-5-1 on the season.
Reece Geml scored the only goal for the Martians with 1:51 left in the first period, on an assist from Sean Rollins.
‘We had some mental breakdowns defensively,? Goodrich coach Doug Van Kuren said. ‘We caught on by the end of the second period, but it was too late. We knew we were going to have our hands full.?
Against league rival LakeVille, Max Hawkins stepped up with four goals to power the Martians to the win. Steve Locke added two goals and an assist, while Brian Van Kuren dished out five assists.
The Martians return to action Friday, Jan. 21 when they take on Lake Fenton at Perani Arena in Flint (formerly the Flint IMA). The teams face off at 5:30 p.m.
