Library promotes campaign urging ‘everyone? to read

Independence Township Library is hosting its fourth annual Everyone’s Reading.
Everyone’s Reading is a program that gets participants to read the same books at the same time. Metro Net libraries started the program in Southeast Michigan in 2002.
The libraries work in partnership to share resources to better serve communities.
This year’s program will feature three books by author Elizabeth McCracken including: Here’s Your Hat What’s Your Hurry, The Giant’s House; A Romance and Niagara Falls All Over Again. This is the first year the reading program has featured multiple books from one author.
McCracken resides in Boston and was recognized by Granta magazine as one of the 20 ‘Best American Novelists.? She was also a National Book Award finalist. Her awards include: ‘Discover Great New Writers Award? through Barnes and Noble and ‘Notable Book of the Year? from the American Library Association.
Here’s how to participate in Everyone’s Reading: read any or all of McCracken’s books, attend the program kickoff on Feb. 22 at the Farmington Community Main Library, discuss the books and participate in programs, and meet the author.
Participating libraries include: Independence Township Library, Baldwin Public Library in Birmingham, Bloomfield Township Public Library, Canton Public Library, Farmington Community Library, Rochester Hills Public Library and West Bloomfield Township Public Library.
Independence Township Library has a display area of the program, which ends April 16.
