Love for theater brings Clarkston together

A woman with a passion for theater wanted desperately to share her dream with others.
Her dream: to form an organization where participants can express themselves.
Janet Rose, 88, was one of the founders of the Clarkston Village Players.
When the idea came to Rose, she instantly shared her dream with her husband Pete.
‘At first he laughed at my idea and said it was crazy,? said Rose. ‘He said who would want to get up there and do all those things on stage.?
In the end, Pete’s actions spoke louder than words. He became one of the major actors of the Clarkston Village Players, and when he passed in 1989 he left a legacy. Every year, a lucky Clarkston High School student receives the Pete Rose Scholarship worth $500.
The Rose family was very active in The Clarkston Village Players. She is proud that her children were involved in her dream. Her sons Steve, Hugh, Patrick and Chris helped with the productions both on stage and behind the scenes.
Rose is thrilled to have nine grandchildren: Meredith, Nathan, Gayna, Stacia, Stephanie, Elise, Ben, Maggie and Abby.
‘I love having a big family,? said Rose. ‘I just love spending time with them.?
Rose remembers her time with the Clarkston Village Players and cherishes every lasting memory. When she isn’t reminiscing about the troupe, Rose enjoys watching television, coloring and most importantly, loves to talk and make friends.
‘I am so pleased to hear that so many Clarkston students participate in the Clarkston Village Players,? said Rose. ‘That is exactly what it was meant to be and what it is good for.?
