Independence Elementary offers banking

Clarkston State Bank recently expanded their services to better serve the public ? specifically students at Independence Elementary.
On Feb. 10, Clarkston State Bank came into Independence Elementary to open its newest branch: One for deposits only that will be run by eight fifth graders.
There new branch is run by branch managers Olivia Dunn and Anna Manilla; assistant managers Lindsey Friend and Austin Klebba; and tellers Nick Dahl, Erika Anderson, Trevor Smith and Deanna Lueck.
‘I’m glad we are doing this,? said fifth grader Erika Anderson. ‘It’s a big opportunity to help people understand banking.?
The purpose of the new bank location is to teach students financial and banking skills. Not only are the students assisting in the overall production of the bank, but also the marketing.
The students put together commercials, which air in the mornings, and also worked together to make posters for the school hallways.
The banking program is coordinated by Independence Elementary PTO members, and uses parent volunteers and sponsors.
On Feb. 10, students who made a deposit, of any amount, were given a 100 Grand candy bar as an incentive to get them involved.
‘I’m excited because this is a great opportunity for the students to start saving and learning at a young age how to manage money,? said PTO president Mary Hubble.
This banking program is open for business through May, and then a new set of fifth graders will take over the responsibilities.
The New Clarkston State Bank is located at the main entrance of Independence Elementary. Business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:15-8:40 a.m.
