Schools building getting new look

Work should begin in mid-August on a remodeling of the Lake Orion Community Schools Administration Building on Lapeer Street, located in the Village of Lake Orion.
The building will get an interior remodel, including new carpeting and different colored walls, a new conference room and storage space, and work done in the meeting room to improve audio.
Outside, the current front entrance will become the back of the building, and a parking lot with 52 spaces will be added to the new front, currently the back of the building along Church Street.
The Lake Orion Village Planning Commission has viewed the plans, and given approval. The schools will be required to put up light fixtures that correspond with those found throughout the rest of the village.
LO School Board Vice President Bob Gritzinger said the board had considered putting up a new building entirely.
‘I’m glad we’re keeping it (on Lapeer Street),? he said. ‘This is what people have always known as the administration building.?
Superintendent Chris Lehman said although the remodeling is being done when the budget is tight, the board had decided to just make modifications, and the project is being funded with bond money.
‘The money can’t be used for operating funds,? she said.
The project should be completed sometime in late fall of this year.
