Brandon’s girls track team got ready for the June 4 state meet by wrapping up the Flint Metro League championship.
The Blackhawks won the May 25 league meet, finishing with 123-1/2 points, well ahead of second-place Fenton’s 85 points. Brandon clinched the league championship with the win.
‘The entire team came up real big and placed in virtually every event,? Brandon coach Greg Hyde said. ‘All parts of the team contributed ? distance, field, and sprints.?
The Blackhawks notched four first-place finishes in winning the meet. Sarah Bond picked up two wins, taking first in the shot put and discus. Savannah Stedman won the high jump, while Kelly Wilson won the 3200 meter run.
Another Brandon runner, Kelly Craciun, finished second in the 3200 meters, while Danie Ashford finished second in the 800 meters.
Stedman took third in the discus, while Melissa McCarty finished third in the shot put and Sherri Lawrence third in the pole vault.
