The Independence Township Board of Trustees took several actions at the regular June 7 meeting:
? The township approved the purchase of two new mowers for the Department of Public Works at a cost of $8,959.20 to Weingartz (for a Navigator with 27 hp, 48-inch deck and rear-discharge with bagger) and $6,701.75 to D&G Equipment (for a John Deer 717A with 19 hp 48-inch deck with bagger).
? The township approved the purchase of a new municipal software package at the cost of approximately $160,000.
? A new administrative policy was accepted regarding the collection of delinquent billing for emergency medical services through the fire department. In addition, Fire Chief Steve Ronk will return to the township board with an updated rate structure for these services which will reflect non-resident amounts.
? Trustees voted unanimously to allow an additional 45 days for the completion of the Sashabaw corridor planning analysis.
Currently, several proposed developments in the area, including the much-debated ‘big box? stores from ORCO Investments Inc. of Troy, are on hold as township officials await the results the study.
