Olympian offers tips to young gymnasts

On Friday, the young gymnasts of Elite Gymnastics on Glaspie St. got to meet 1996 gold medalist Kerri Strug as part of their Extreme Power! Summer Camp.
Strug, 27, made gymnastics history in the Atlanta Olympics after seriously injuring her ankle on the vault, only to nail a perfect landing the second time.
Oxford gymnasts, as well as girls from Lake Orion and Clarkston, got to spend two days with their idol, who offered tips and advice on their routines.
Ten-year-old Marissa Wick, of Oxford, was one of the lucky gymnasts who met Strug on Friday.
‘It was amazing,? she said. ‘She’s really nice.?
Wick said Strug offered her good advice for her floor routine.
‘She told me to keep my chin up and to always look straight ahead,? she said.
Strug participates in a few summer camps nationwide each year promoting team work and positive motivation while giving tips and advice.
