Ken Mueller’s shoes are made for walkin’

As a part of the statewide ‘Walk Michigan? program through Michigan Parks and Recreation, Oxford residents were urged to dust off their walking shoes and get moving around local parks.
Established by Governor Granholm and the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports, participation in ‘Walk Michigan? made walkers eligible for a trip to Mackinac Island.
Oxford resident Ken Mueller was the lucky recipient of the four day, three night trip to Mission Pointe Resort for two on Mackinac Island over Labor Day.
He and other Michigan residents will also get to walk five miles across the Mackinac Bridge with the governor.
On top of staying at the beautiful Mission Pointe Resort, Mueller will get to have brunch at the prestigious Grand Hotel.
Mueller said he and his wife, Linda, an Oxford Twp. Parks and Recreation commissioner, and his two-year-old granddaughter walked in parks like Powell Lake and the Oxford Elementary School track.
‘It was a fun thing to do,? he said. ‘I always enjoy supporting parks and rec.?
Mueller found out he won the trip last week and said his family must of had luck riding on their shoulders.
A back-up name was drawn incase Mueller didn’t want to go and his wife’s name was drawn.
‘She said she should’ve bought a lottery ticket,? he said.
Mueller said getting to walk through Powell Lake reminds him of what a great job Parks and Rec does for the township.
‘It’s hard to believe you’re sitting in Oxford when it seems like you’re out in the middle of nowhere,? he said.
‘Walk Michigan? will run in Oxford until the end of the month. Statewide, the program ends in September. Call Becky at Parks and Rec for more information on ‘Walk Michigan? at (248) 628-1720.
