Teen leads deputies on chase

A 16-year-old girl from Oxford Twp. was arrested on Saturday evening after allegedly stealing a friend’s truck in Addison Twp. and leading sheriff’s deputies on a chase through Addison, Oxford and Orion townships.
According to the sheriff’s report, the girl, who was a runaway, was getting a ride to the Oxford Meijer from her 17-year-old male friend who wanted her to turn herself in.
After stopping for a moment at the Lakeville Inn in Addison Twp. the girl allegedly jumped into the driver’s seat and began to drive off, hitting and damaging two parked cars in the lot.
Addison deputies were called to the Lakeville Inn and was followed down Oxford Rd. Oxford deputies later caught up with the girl as she drove westbound on Ray Rd.
She did not stop for the pursuing deputies, according to the report.
As she headed south on M-24, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit was deployed to help in the high-speed chase of the 2005 silver Dodge Dakota.
The report stated the girl was ‘driving recklessly almost hitting several cars as she was driving.? She even ‘swerved? towards a sheriff’s patrol car just past Drahner Rd.
According to Lt. Tom Parker of the Oxford Sheriff’s Substation, the girl didn’t appear to run any stop lights on M-24.
Deputies deployed Stop Sticks at Greensheild and Lapeer Rd. in Orion, which caused three of her four tires to deflate. The suspect finally came to a stop just north of Silver Bell Rd.
The report stated a deputy ran up to the truck after it stopped and demanded her to exit. When the girl didn’t open the door, he tried unsuccessfully to break the window open, causing minor damage to his finger.
The girl finally unlocked the door and the deputy ‘pulled her out onto the ground.? According to Lt.Parker of the Oxford Sheriff’s Substation, she stated she ‘had been drinking? and ‘may have drugs in her system.?
A search warrant was issued to obtain a blood alcohol level. The girl was taken to Children’s Village. Her friend decided to press charges against her.
Addison Sgt. Pete Burkett said the girl was charged with unlawful driving of an automobile, fleeing and eluding and two counts of leaving the scene of property damage.
The Oakland County Auto Theft Unit is now in charge of the case.
