CVP presents ‘Love: Sense or Nonsense??

Think all love stories are alike? Think you’ve heard them all before? Think again.
On Feb. 11, a unique way to celebrate the spirit of Valentine’s Day can be found right here in Clarkston as the Clarkston Village Players present storyteller Lois Sprengnether-Keel in ‘Love: Sense or Nonsense??
Sprengnether-Keel has been storytelling since 1970, and tailors every performance to suit the evening’s audience. For one night only, she will bring her humorous and insightful look into the different ways people love to the Depot Theater.
Sprengnether-Keel, a Springfield Township resident, grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. In college, she studied theater, but found memorizing lines to be difficult.
‘I have a very poor memory,? she said. ‘Stories that require memory, frankly, don’t work for me. I tell them by heart.?
Sprengnether-Keel emphasized that storytelling is not reading, and said the best way to describe the somewhat interactive experience is ‘theater of the mind.?
‘I’m actually performing in response to what the audience is giving me,? she said, emphasizing how the show differs from traditional theater and movies.
‘People have things that are on the screen that is already done or else they’re going to the theater and seeing something that is pretty well fixed. So this way, I’m free to adjust it to whatever the audience happens to respond well to.?
Depending on the rhythm of the show, there will likely be two acts that feature multiple stories that range from humorous to heartfelt, mix fiction with fact and all illustrate love’s many forms.
‘Love: Sense or Nonsense?? begins at 8 p.m. on February 11. Tickets for the event cost $8 a piece.
