Support for Flint/Broadway projects

Upsizing water mains, repaving roads and replacing the bridge in Meek’s Park are a few of the projects on the minds of Lake Orion Village Council members.
After tabulating the results from their prioritizing of capital improvement projects, overwhelming support was shown for projects involving Flint and Broadway Streets.
At the Feb. 13 meeting, council members were asked by Village Manager JoAnn Van Tassel to list their top 5 project choices, in order. The results were tabulated and presented at the Feb. 27 meeting.
The council received and filed the information, and voted to use the list to begin work on Amendment 4 to the Tax Increment Financing/Development Plan.
In a previous agenda item, the council had already voted to receive and file the plan, and to accept the village manager’s recommendation to begin the process of preparing the amendment.
However, before the amendment is approved, the council must prepare a draft plan, hold a public hearing, and determine if the plan constitutes a public purpose.
The top projects included on council members? lists were upsizing the water main in Flint from Orion Road, west to M-24, at a cost of $432,000. Also, upsizing the water main in Broadway from Lake Orion Lumber, north to Shadbolt, at a cost of $184,200.
Also in the top projects: Repair/replace sanitary sewer lines in Flint and Broadway (cost to be determined), and repair/replace storm sewer lines in Flint and Broadway (cost to be determined).
Also at the top of the list was paving part of Flint ($263,800); paving part of Broadway ($95,800); and paving Cass Street ($60,000).
Other projects on the list included replacing the Meek’s Park bridge ($120,000); installing sidewalk on Atwater from Orion Road, west to bridge ($58,000); and installing sidewalk on Orion Road from Atwater, north to Flint ($69,000).
Van Tassel said some council members had taking care of sewers as a top priority, and others had the water main first.
‘Everyone cast one of their votes for repaving those roads,? she said. ‘The other most frequently mentioned project was to replace the bridge in Meek’s Park.?
Van Tassel said other projects mentioned were various village park improvements, connecting the Paint Creek and and Polly Ann Trails, and parking in the downtown area.
