Lake Orion used two third place finishes in freestyle races and a championship performance on the diving board to grab a sixth place finish at the state competition held at the University of Michigan on March 11.
The Dragons finished with 137 points, 109 back of champion Ann Arbor Pioneer, who edged Birmingham Brother Rice.
Brandon Figurski, a junior who placed second in the one meter diving event last year, beat out a slew of seniors, finishing with 407.60 points, 15 points clear of his nearest competition.
His mark also set a new school record, breaking his own from earlier this year.
The last diver in the final round, Figurski calmly executed his last dive to win the title and 20 points for the team.
Dave Brown finished third in the 200-yard freestyle and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle to pace the swimmers, setting a pair of school records in the process.
Brown’s time of 142.05 in the 200 final broke his own school record from earlier this year and his 46.53 in the 100 prelims broke his own mark in that event.
Ricky Forrest was third in the 500-yard freestyle and ninth in the 200-yard freestyle, winning the B-final heat. His time of 436.71 in the 500 broke his own school mark by over a second and a half.
Garrett Ruhland was seventh in the 100-yard freestyle and 15th in the 50-yard freestyle.
The Dragons also earned points for their strong finishes in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays. Those teams included the aforementioned three swimmers along with Andrew Kuehl.They finished sixth in the 200 and eighth in the 400 earning all-state honors in both.
All individual top eight finishers for LO won all-state honors, while the two thrid place finishes from Brown and Forrest earned automatic All-American awards.
