Home intruder sentenced

A man who entered a Clarkston home and attacked a woman in December plead no contest to one count of second degree home invasion on Feb. 16.
Rogelio Lopez Medina, 18, was sentenced to one year in jail with credit for 76 days served in 6th Circuit Court before Judge Steven Andrews. He was also charged with court fees and fines.
The charge stemmed from an incident on Dec. 21 when a Clarkston resident found Medina in her home on E. Washington Street.
According to police reports, the woman was dropped home around 1 a.m. After hearing noises, the woman called out thinking they were caused by her son. Getting no response, she checked his room and found her son asleep. The woman than left the house to move her car.
Upon reentering the house, she heard someone walking and grabbed a wine bottle before walking through the house to investigate. As she left the kitchen, she encountered Medina wearing all black and a struggle ensued.
Police reports state the son woke up came downstairs and began wrestling with Medina. The woman hit Medina over the head with the wine bottle and the pair forced him from the home before calling 911.
Medina, an undocumented person from Mexico, had no known criminal record prior to the incident. He was arraigned on Dec. 21 before Judge Kelley Kostin in 52-2 District Court before the case was bound over to Circuit Court with the plea coming at the Feb. 16 exam.
