Man tries to take officer’s firearm after breaking into building

Lake Orion Police Department Chief Jerry Narsh calls 24-year-old Richard Minges ‘someone who is bad for the downtown,? after the S. Broadway man was caught breaking into the Keep Coming Back Club on March 17.
The incident happened at 2:42 a.m. on Friday morning, when someone called the LOPD to report suspicious activity at the club, located on Broadway.
‘An officer responded, and observed a lone male inside the building, rummaging through property,? Narsh said. ‘A window on the south side of the building was shattered.?
The officer witnessed the subject exiting the building through a rear door, and confronted him. The subject, identified as Richard Beryl Minges, then took off on foot.
The officer chased Minges, and tackled him near Minges? residence on Broadway. There was a scuffle, and Narsh said Minges attempted to take the officer’s firearm.
‘He violently fought the arrest,? he said. ‘Lake Orion is not immune to this kind of crime…But thankfully it is rare.?
Minges had money and other items belonging to the Keep Coming Back Club.
‘He was caught with the evidence,? Narsh said.
Minges was arraigned March 18 on one count of breaking and entering a building with intent, a 10-year felony, and one count of attempting to disarm a police officer of a firearm, a five-year felony.
Minges is currently being held in the Oakland County Jail, on a $15,000 cash bond.
‘He does have a criminal history of similar acts,? Narsh said.
