Intoxicated driver said he was involved in a fight

A man asking for directions at Walgreen’s on Park Boulevard was actually the responsible intoxicated driver in an accident that destroyed the Lake Orion Nursing Center’s sign, according to the Lake Orion Police Department.
LO Police Chief Jerry Narsh said the 24-year-old Casco, MI man and his girlfriend, a 42-year-old Casco woman, were traveling northbound on Orion Road in a 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass at a high rate of speed on April 8.
At about 5 a.m., the couple’s vehicle ran the stop sign at the intersection of Orion, Miller and Flint Street, ‘completely obliterating? the LO Nursing Center sign, Narsh said.
‘The vehicle continued into yards of the two houses to the west, on the north side of Flint, destroying turf and landscaping,? he said. ‘The vehicle then came to rest.?
Narsh said officers were dispatched to Walgreen’s, after the man driving the vehicle came inside the store with blood all over his clothes.
‘The cashier stated he asked for directions to St. Clair County,? he said. ‘The man said he was jumped in a fight.?
Officers found the man’s girlfriend outside the store, also with blood on her. Neither were wearing coats, and they were shivering.
‘Questioning and further investigation revealed the man was the driver of the vehicle,? said Narsh. ‘Alcohol was a factor.?
The couple were treated for their injuries and the man was arrested for driving intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. He was later released on bond.
?(The couple) luckily, and narrowly, avoided hitting the home on the northwest corner of that intersection,? Narsh added. ‘The people living there could have ended up with a car in their kitchen.?
