Leonard gardens wanted

There’s nothing more peaceful then sitting in a quiet, sunny garden, indulging in the sweet smell of flowers as the butterflies drift by.
If your garden sounds this nice or better, why not submit it for the 2nd Annual Leonard Garden Walk on Saturday, July 22.
The Leonard Garden Club is looking for perennial, shade and even water gardens to feature on this year’s walk.
But don’t worry, you don’t have to have a professionally landscaped yard to be featured on the tour.
‘Some people don’t think their garden is walk-worthy, but they are,? said Debi McDonald of garden club. ‘It’s also a nice day where you can go look at other gardens and get ideas.?
Gardens on the walk need to be located either in the Village of Leonard proper or within a five-mile radius of the village.
Seven gardens are needed to have the walk, right now there is only one.
McDonald is encouraging those with a green thumb to enter their garden, or recommend someone else’s garden, for the walk. ‘When people work that hard they should show it off,? McDonald said.
For those interested in joining the garden club, it meets the second Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at Rowland Hall in Leonard. The club will be taking a trip to Eastern Market on June 3.
The Leonard Garden Walk is scheduled for 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on July 22.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling Debi McDonald at (248) 628-7764.
To enter your garden, pick up an entry form at Strobel’s Service (4490 Forest) and mail to Leonard Garden Club, P.O. Box 98, Leonard, MI 48367.
Proceeds from the garden walk are donated to educational or environmental projects in the area.
