As one of the largest and most well-attended fireworks shows in the area, the Lake Orion Fireworks have earned their reputation as a spectacular show.
But to continue the tradition, the Lake Orion Fireworks Association needs the help of the public.
Carl Cyrowski of the LOFA said most of the fundraising for the show comes from individual contributions. However, there are some fundraisers being planned, involving area businesses.
For instance, Bellacino’s Grinders at 1188 S. Lapeer Road will donate 15 percent of their gross profit from all Saturday sales until July 1—so eat up.
Other fundraisers include the Fireworks Breakfast, with two dates, June 11 and 25, starting at 9 a.m. at the Lake Orion Boat Club.
The cost of the breakfast is $10 for adults, and $5 for children 12 and under.
A shuttle will be leaving from the bait shop on Heights Road (west of M-24), and additional parking will be available at Snug Harbor Marina (in the grass area).
A silent auction will be included, and the LOFA is still looking for donations of all sorts, especially services.
Christi’s Bar & Grill will host a Fireworks Benefit on June 17, with a buffet dinner starting at 7 p.m., and live music from ‘Step 13,? starting at 9 p.m.
For tickets to that event, call Christi’s at 693-6224, or stop by the restaurant, located at 95 E. Clarkston Road.
The Hamlin Pub is also organizing two car washes, as they have done in the past, with the second scheduled for June 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Hamlin Pub is located at 714 S. Lapeer. For more information, call 814-8109.
Cyrowski said the total fundraising goal for this year’s show is $35,000.
‘If we reach our goal, the show will be even more spectacular than last year,? he said.
There will be a fundraising thermometer placed at the corner of M-24 and Flint Street, to keep residents updated of the fundraising totals.
Cyrowski said the thermometer will be updated weekly and then daily in the days leading up to the show.
All of the individual donations go directly to the show.
‘A lot of people still don’t understand that this is one little group,? Cyrowski said of the non-profit association.
Cyrowski noted that if every one of the estimated 100,000 viewers donated just $1, the show would have three times its fundraising goal.
‘This is our show, it’s going to be as good as the donations we receive,? he said.
Donations can be mailed to the Lake Orion Fireworks Association (checks made out to same) at 3677 S. Lapeer Road, Lake Orion, MI 48360.
