Get a pass, watch the fireworks in Green’s Park

People will be allowed to view the Lake Orion fireworks show from Green’s Park for the first time this year, but there is a catch.
The only people allowed into the park after the park closes at 8 p.m. will be those who have pre-purchased a pass from Lake Orion Village Hall.
LO Village Manager JoAnn Van Tassel brought the idea before council members on June 12, to sell passes that would allow up to 500 people into Green’s Park.
She said the park will be closed as normal at 8 p.m., and cleared of all people, and the parking lot cleared of all vehicles.
After 8:30 p.m., the park would reopen for those with passes, and the parking lot would be utilized as a viewing area for people with passes as well.
Van Tassel’s recommendation was approved, but instead of allowing up to 500 people, the council voted to consult with LO Police Chief Jerry Narsh about the appropriate number of people to allow into the park.
The cost of the passes, which must be purchased June 30 at village hall, would be as follows: For village residents, children 12 and under, and seniors, are free (but still must present a pass), and all others would pay $1 apiece.
For Orion Township residents, children 12 and under, and seniors, $1 apiece; for all others, $2.
Out-of-towners: Children 12 and under, and seniors, $2; all others, $5.
Van Tassel said the revenue from pass sales could be split between the Village Parks and Recreation Department, and the Lake Orion Fireworks Association.
Signage will be posted advising people that all park activities are ‘at your own risk,? as recommended by the village’s insurance carrier.
The area near the water will be roped off, with no swimming allowed.
Alcoholic beverages will not be permitted.
When asked how she arrived at the figure of 500 people, Van Tassel said she didn’t really use any process.
‘I just picked a number,? she said.
President Pro Tem Ken Van Portfliet said it would be better to consult with Narsh.
‘The idea is to make it available primarily for village residents,? he said.
