The ballots are cast and the votes are tallied ? with everything moving smoothly during the Aug. 8 primary election for Springfield and Independence townships and the City of Clarkston.
By 11:30 p.m., the three municipalities had all unofficial elections results submitted and posted on the Oakland County website. The following results were listed on the Oakland County website as of press time.
In Independence Township, 4,414 residents (17.32 percent) of the 25,482 registered voted. The clerk’s office completed their tallies shortly after 9 p.m.
The Independence Township Library millage renewal for 0.6910 mill over four years passed 2,737 to 1,446. The police millage for 2.0547 mills over four years also passed 2,793 to 1,394.
In Springfield Township, 2,065 votes were cast of the 9,982 registered voters, a 20.69 percent turn out. The election results were complete around 10 p.m.
All three of the millages on the Springfield Township ballot passed:
? A 10-year, 1 mill fire millage was approved 1,427 to 568.
? A 10-year, 1.5 mill police millage received a 1,307 to 675 yes from voters.
? And the 0.5 mill library millage addition passed 1,184 to 812.
The City of Clarkston saw 213 of the 795 registered voters come out for the primary. The city did not have any millage issues on the ballot.
In local candidate races, incumbent Tom Middleton defeated Independence Township Trustee Dan Kelly for the 4th District County Commission Republican nomination. Middleton received 2,629 votes while Kelly got 1,912. Middleton will face Democrat Phillip Reid in the November election.
For the 44th District Representative seat, incumbent John Stakoe received the Republican nomination for the November election over challenger Andrew Goss. Stakoe received 3,414 votes while Goss received 942. Stakoe will now face Democratic candidate Mark Venie in the November election.
