Canadian National Railway Company finished resurfacing the railroad crossing between Big Lake Road and Andersonville Road in Springfield Township on Aug. 4.
The company had the crossing closed for five days to make the repairs.
‘We were not happy with the condition of the crossing,? Road Commission for Oakland County Public Information Officer Craig Bryson said.
The RCOC can make suggestions to CN that the crossings need to be improved, but the railway company owns the track, making them responsible for the repair.
‘We’re very happy they did it and did not put it off any longer,? Bryson said.
The dilapidated condition of the crossing even prompted someone to post a sign encouraging residents to call the RCOC public comment line, apparently with the hope of getting attention of the degraded condition of the road.
Township Supervisor Collin Walls said the township received several complaints regarding the crossing, but ‘over time, it wears out and needs to be fixed.?
He said CN repaired other crossings in the township prior to the 4-H Fair in late July. The crossings on Broadway in Davisburg and the crossing along Andersonville Road near the recently repaired crossing were fixed first.
