The Lake Orion girls swim team used their depth to distance the field at the OAA II league meet, which wrapped up on Friday at the LOHS Natatorium.
The Dragon depth was most evident in the 100-yard butterfly event, where four swimmers placed in the top eight, accumulating 57 points to the team’s cause.
The Dragons also got 45 points from the diving competition, with three divers placing in the top seven.
In all, the team totaled 352 points, to top second-place Clarkston by 41.
Katrin Vetter took first in the 50-yard freestyle event, finishing in 24.51. Individual victories were worth 20 points to the team total.
Vetter was second in the butterfly event (1:00.54), followed by teammates Emily Loerch (1:02.95) in fourth, Nicole Kudla (1:03.01) in fifth, and Chelsey Booth (1:05.9) in eighth.
Junior Jenna Dorey distanced the field on the diving board, with teammates Hailey Augillon and Natalie Fiorani finishing in sixth and seventh, respectively.
Dorey accumulated a score of 386.35, nearly 75 points higher than her nearest competitor.
Sara Simic finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.51), as did two Dragon relay teams.
The 200-yard freestyle relay unit of Kudla, Liz Eesley, Loerch and Vetter picked up 34 points for the team, finishing in 1:42.51.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Loerch, Sarah Stiel, Christine Forrest and Vetter was also good for 34 points, with a time of 3:44.53.
All of Lake Orion’s top three performances were state meet D1 qualifying times.
The medley relay team of Simic, Lauren Barber, Kudla and Eesley earned 30 points for their fourth-place finish which led off the meet. Their time of 1:55.99 was also a D1 qualifying time.
Loerch’s sixth-place result in the 200-yard freestyle event (2:01.48) was a D1 time also, and earned the team 13 points.
Stiel and Kudla, both freshmen, finished fifth and seventh, respectively in the 200-yard individual medley, earning the team 26 points in the process. Stiel finished in 2:19.81, while Kudla was clocked at 2:22.14.
Eesley finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle championship heat with a time of 57.59, and Forrest was seventh in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 5:32.04.
The Dragons will next swim at L’Anse Creuse North in regional action.
