Cagers hope to finish second

Bethany Watterworth’s double-double wasn’t enough to overcome North Farmington’s “Killer Bs,” as the Raiders capped a perfect OAA III season by beating Lake Orion at the LOHS Fieldhouse 51-44 on Tuesday night.
Watterworth had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way for the Dragons. Cassie Beller led the Raiders with 19.
Freshmen Jenna Bachrouche and Lyndsey Booker each had 12 for the raiders, and combined for 20 second half points.
The Dragons led by two at the half and had leads as large as eight points late in the first half.
But North Farmington, after shooting a paltry 24 percent in the first half, found their touch in the third quarter.
They took the lead early in the quarter on a Beller 3-point shot and never relinquished it.
Prior to the loss, the team got a pair of blowout wins last week, beating Lahser 65-42 at home on Oct. 31 and topping Groves 60-28 on Nov. 2.
Melanie LaMereto led the Dragons with 13 in the win over Lahser and Watterworth added 10.
In the Groves win, Watterworth recorded another double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Courtney Zott led all scorers in the game with 15 points.
Lake Orion led both games by at least 20 points at halftime and is now 8-3 in league play with one game remaining. They are tied with Stoney Creek for second place.
