The Clarkston wrestling squad continued their successful season at the Hammer and Anvil tournament on Saturday at Western Brown High School in Mt. Orab, Ohio.
Clarkson had five first-place finishers in the individual tournament.
Mike Maguire and Alex Popp, wrestling down a weight class, won the 119-pound and 125-pound weight classes respectively.
Newcomer Frank Sade took first in the 130-pound class. Colton Tweed (152) and Bryant Craft (160) also won first place.
Erik Butterfield (140), Adam Lauzun (171) and Layne Upcott (215) all took third place in their weights. Matt Dietz (112) and Steve Cooper (275) both took fifth overall.
As a team, the Wolves took second place overall, with 231 points, behind Miami Trace which scored 238 points.
‘They wrestled really well at a tough tournament,? Clarkston coach Joe DeGain said.
‘We were underdogs in a lot of matches that we won,? DeGain said.
Popp (125) was victorious after starting the day unseeded in his weight class. Seven of the Wolves? 11 placers finished higher than where they were seeded at the beginning of the tournament.
‘Their ball is rolling. The important part is that our momentum is there at the end of the year,? DeGain said.
