Keep an eye out for ‘bubblers? on lake

After two snowmobiles went for chilly winter swims, lake users are reminded to watch out for thin ice.
The incidents, which occurred in the bay near Lake Orion Marine Center, are believed to be caused by thin ice due to the use of ‘bubblers.?
Bubblers are devices that keep water moving around dock posts, thus preventing the water from freezing. When ice forms around the posts, it can cause significant damage to the supports.
As bubblers are not governed by state laws and therefore do not require for signs posted warning of their use, it is necessary to keep eyes open for signs of them and thin ice.
‘With bubblers, you will see the current moving and no ice,? John Bradshaw of Lake Orion Marine Center said. ‘Its a smart thing to use as it keeps your dock from getting tore up.?
According to Lake Orion Police Chief Jerry Narsh, these are not just concerns to keep in mind when using frozen lakes in Orion.
‘Bubblers are used in a variety of lakes across the state,? Narsh said.
