Clarkston is finding its stride on the softball diamond, going to 17-13 after winning the Traverse City Cherry Festival tournament over the weekend. The girls were 2-1 Saturday, with freshman pitcher Bailee Braunreuther picking up two wins.
‘She had nice movement on the ball and kept the hitters off balance,? Clarkston coach Don Peters said.
The Wolves defeated Traverse City West 10-0 in the first game and dropped a close second game to Marquette 4-3. In the championship match, Clarkston beat Saginaw Heritage 6-0.
‘They played great and we only made one error in the whole tournament,? Peters said.
‘We hit the ball well and had lots of fun.?
Second baseman Kara Wandrie racked up four of her five RBIs on the day with a grand slam against West. She had six hits in the tournament. Taylor Hasselbach had seven hits and four RBIs and Katie Smith had seven hits.
Clarkston, 8-2 in their last 10 games, begin the district playoffs May 29 against Pontiac Northern.
The Wolves will need to be smart around the bases to help their cause against the Huskies, Peters said, which is an emphasis in practice.
‘We haven’t been doing as well as we’re capable. We did well this weekend, (but) we haven’t been doing well trying to get the extra base,? Peters said.
