Gillis makes the cut at Buick Open

Lake Orion High School grad and Oxford resident Tom Gillis tied for 52nd last week at the PGA Tour’s Buick Open, held in Grand Blanc.
The tournament was Gillis? second on the tour this year, the other being the U.S. Open two weeks earlier, and it was the first time he made the cut.
His score of -5 (283) was 10 shots back of first-time tour winner Brian Bateman.
The Buick Open is Michigan’s only PGA Tour stop and is played at Warwick Hills.
Gillis has also played one event on the Nationwide Tour this season. His effort in Grand Blanc earned him over $11,000.
On Monday, Gillis also participated in a British Open Qualifier at Oakland Hills. His +8 score over the 36-holes (played on both the north and south courses), left him seven shots back of the qualifying score.
