Eight bands will provide a wide-range of musical offerings during the 2007 Gazebo Concert series in Downtown Lake Orion. Whether you prefer Swing, jazz, Latin, Celtic, worldbeat, bluegrass, R&B or gospel, this series has you covered.
Performances take place Wednesday evenings beginning at 7 p.m. at the Gazebo in Children’s Park, located on Broadway, two blocks south of Flint Street. The Tom Allport Big Band and the Jump Street Swing Band got things underway the last two weeks, covering decades of great jazz hits. The remaining schedule includes:
July 25 ? Bill Long is a singer, songwriter and Detroit icon who was a member of two national record charting bands. Bill is a one-man band offering an eclectic mix of classic rock, blues, pop, country, bluegrass and surf guitar with songs from the Beatles, Rolling Stones, B.B. King, Neil Young, Jimmy Buffet and Van Morrison, just to name a few.
Aug. 1 ? Irish Gaels will play your favorite Celtic tunes and ballads. This show is entertaining, comical, and is guaranteed to leave your Irish eyes smiling.
Aug. 8 ? The Troubadours, Sean Bondareff and Nick Schillace, are a Detroit-based group focusing on original compositions and arrangements. The ensemble draws on a variety of influences including worldbeat, rock, classical, jazz and flamenco to form its own unique musical statement.
Aug. 15 ? Salt miners are Detroit’s ‘finest and best-dressed old-time string band.? Under the din of Detroit’s industrial sounds, you can hear five guys playing their hearts out, returning to a simpler way of making music.
Aug. 22 ? Paint Creek Boys, led by twin brothers Don and Ron Whitaker, is a six-member bluegrass band whose members are all local to the Lake Orion area. Offering a unique brand of feel-good music, the band’s popularity is growing with every performance.
Aug. 29 ? Brass Knuckle Band closes the 2007 season with the good time Rock ‘n? Roll and Rhythm & Blues music that has been their trademark in the Detroit area for the past eight years. They present both popular and lesser known tunes from blues standards to R&B to horn-driven rock.
Bring your lawn chairs or blanket and enjoy some great music on Wednesday nights this summer.
