Corriveau becomes first Liquid Lightning member to qualify for zone, sectional meets

Fifteen-year-old Ashley Corriveau, she knows exactly what she wants out of the future: a trip to the Olympics.
In the meantime, she gets to settle for being the first Lake Orion Liquid Lightning swimmer to compete in both sectionals, held in Miami of Ohio University, and the Zone Meet, held in Kansas.
Corriveau, a junior at Lapeer East High School, has swam with the Liquid Lightning for three years and is the first swimmer with times to qualify for the two meets.
She swam both of her events, 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle at Sectionals, held at the end of July.
‘It was very intimidating,? Corriveau said of sectionals. ‘There were a lot of older people there.?
She added that while her times were ‘okay,? she is looking forward to doing even better at the Zone Meet. Once again, Corriveau will be swimming both of her freestyle events, and she believes that she will also be placed to swim on some relay teams as well.
At the meet, to be held Aug. 9-12, Corriveau will be among other swimmers representing Team Michigan, and will be competing against swimmers from other states.
‘I’m excited to represent Michigan,? she said, adding that she is also looking forward to visiting Kansas, a state that she has never been to before, and meeting new people from other states.
Corriveau, who also runs track, said that she likes swimming because it’s a lot of fun and ‘you don’t get as sweaty as other sports.?
Whatever her reasons may be, Corriveau seems to have found a good fit with swimming.
‘She’s extremely committed,? said Liquid Lightning interim head coach Susan Roesch.
‘She’s enthusiastic, willing and doesn’t miss a practice.?
