A shockwave of dance

Students of Goodrich’s Le Studio School of Dance put on their dancing shoes last month.
Lori Simms, owner of Le Studio, 10248 Hegel Road, sent nine of her young dancers to the Shockwave Dance Camp Convention at the Palace of Auburn Hills on July 26. The convention was held by the Detroit Pistons? Automotion Dance Team.
‘The dancers were chosen based on their age and how much they would benefit from the experience,? said Simms.
The students? ages ranged from 9-14-years-old.
LeeAnn Alexander, the students? dance teacher, took the nine students to the convention.
‘There were about 100 students at the convention, which is pretty small,? said Alexander. ‘Bigger conventions have anywhere between 500-600 students.?
The convention was not based on competition. However, individual awards were given to stand-out students.
Megan Underwood and Alexandra Johnson each took home showmanship and spirit awards.
The students performed the dance they learned at the convention during the halftime show of the Detroit Shock vs. Chicago Sky WNBA game.
‘That was really exciting,? said Alexander. ‘The place was packed.?
Despite the small-scale of the convention, Simms and Alexander are happy with their students? participation.
‘This convention was important for them because it showed them what a professional dancing experience is like,? said Alexander.
