When Mary Beth Anker woke up one day last week, she knew she was turning 40. What she didn’t know was that 40 plastic flamingos were in her yard waiting to express birthday wishes from a friend.
Anker, who couldn’t believe her lawn decorations, had no choice but to laugh, because only weeks before she was talking with a friend and mentioned that she always feels bad for those people who wake up on their birthday to a big black banner across their lawn announcing their age to the world.
It should be something fun, she said to her friend, like penguins or flamingos.
Lo and behold a few weeks later, a different friend chose to announce Anker’s 40th birthday to the world using 40 pink, plastic flamingos.
And yes, Anker and her daughters, Samantha, Allison and Charlotte, did count, and there were 40.
