Patriotism honored

Over 100 area residents turned out on Tuesday for Lake Orion’s Patriot’s Day ceremony at the Veterans Memorial.
Village Police Chief Jerry Narsh was joined by several other law enforcement personnel and first responders, as well as Dr. Joe Mastromatteo and other veterans.
Patriotic musical selections were offered by the Church Street Singers.
‘I thank you for sharing this day with us,? Narsh said to the crowd, adding that anyone who loves his/her country is a ‘Patriot.?
Narsh noted that the heroic acts of citizens ranging from police and other first responders to military personnel cannot be forgotten or discounted.
‘We must remember that freedom is not free,? he said. ‘The price of freedom is measured in human sacrifice.?
The day honored both men and women fighting abroad and those who gave their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
‘This is what we built this memorial for,? Mastromatteo said, ‘to have this forum for discussion and remembrance.?
