For the second time in the past three weeks, tornado warning sirens could be heard across Orion Township on a Friday evening.
But unlike the Aug. 24 storm, which brought numerous lighting strikes to the area, the Sept. 7 weather was a bit more peculiar.
According to the National Weather Service, which issued the warning at 6:05 p.m., a funnel cloud was spotted on radar moving across the southern part of the township.
Spotters on the ground, including deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, said nothing came close to touching ground.
The heart of the storm proceeded over the Bald Mountain Recreation Area, but tornado warnings were lifted early as the storm weakened.
Among other things, the weather delayed the start of the Lake Orion-Rochester Adams football game at Dragon Stadium (See this web edition for the game story).
