Crashes claim two township lives

A pair of Orion Township residents were killed in unrelated motorcycle accidents last week.
The first crash, on Adams Road in Rochester Hills, involved an 18-year-old man who was a recent graduate of Lake Orion High School.
Kyle William Brett was driving his 1985 Honda motorcycle west on Walton Road, when witnesses said he ran a red light and was struck by a 2001 Jeep Cherokee going south on Adams.
The accident took place shortly before midnight on Thursday and deputies performed CPR before Brett was transferred to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Department report, Brett was wearing a helmet and alcohol and drugs are not factors in the crash.
The driver of the Jeep, a 24-year-old Rochester resident, was transported to Crittenton Hospital and listed in stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation.
Meanwhile, the Crash Reconstruction Unit is also investigating a fatal crash that occurred on northbound Baldwin Road, south of Clarkston Road, at about 6 p.m. on Friday.
Kenneth Hornacek, a 34-year-old Orion Township resident, was operating a 2001 Honda CBR motorcycle northbound on Baldwin. A friend of Hornacek was riding another motorcycle in front of him and said that Hornacek heavily accelerated past him and crossed the centerline, striking a 2007 Chevy Venture that was southbound.
The Venture was being driven by a 37-year-old Rochester resident, with two children riding as passengers.
Hornacek was seriously injured and transported to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 7 p.m.
Hornacek’s license was revoked at the time of the crash. He was wearing a helmet, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The driver of the Venture was transported to Crittenton, while the two children were uninjured and released from the scene to their father’s custody.
