Scripps Estate’s place in history secured

Around 1,200 people turned out last weekend for the Scripps Days: Art, Autos & Architecture event.
The three-day event raised money for the newly formed Friends of the Scripps Estate, which will help to protect the legacy of the 80-year-old estate.
Tours of the mansion were given all weekend, and music and art graced the grounds as well. Other highlights included Friday’s ‘Sunset at the Estate? dinner and Saturday’s celebration of the estate’s new listing on the National Register.
Saturday’s dedication ceremony was hosted by Mara MacDonald of WDIV-TV and featured a bevy of speakers.
‘The Scripps Estate really stands among Cranbrook and Meadowbrook among Oakland County’s gems,? said Bret Rasegan from Oakland County’s Planning and Economic Development Services.
A temporary marker of the estate’s listing was also unveiled.
‘Our vision is for this building to become a historic destination,? said Guest House President and CEO Dan Kidd. ‘We pledge our continued allegiance.?
Kidd noted that Guest House’s new building, not far from the mansion, will allow more public access to the estate.
‘That frees up this building to become what we want it to be,? he said, adding that money is still needed to support the ‘Friends? organization.
