The Pontiac-Waterford Big Chief Barbershop Chorus is celebrating their 64th year, and will perform a special program during the Orion Township Library’s Second Sunday Concert Series this weekend.
The Oct. 24 concert begins at 2 p.m. and combines the chorus? shows from the past two years.
Vice President of Public Relations Jack Teuber said the library show is in anticipation of their Nov. 3 performance ‘Country Roads Take Me Home,? to be performed at Waterford Mott High School.
That show will feature two very special comedy quartets, Four Man Fishin Tackle Choir, and the Sweet Adeline Quartet Novelty Shop.
The library’s show will begin with portions of ‘Happy Trails To You,? from the chorus’s very successful 2006 campaign.
‘We’re going to start out with last year’s show, and in midstream we’ll throw off our cowboy hats and put on our sunglasses to sing some do-wop,? Teuber said.
The Chorus is a chapter of the Harmony Society of America (formerly known as SPEBSQSA).
Teuber said the chorus is fortunate to have Tom Blue as their director. Blue, an Orion Township resident, is currently the vocal director of Rochester Adams High School. He is assisted by Fred McFadyen, Bill Holmes and Dick Johnson.
The Chorus is very active during the year, performing at several functions in the Oakland County area. In 2006 they had 42 appearances, with the highlight being the singing of the National Anthem at Comerica Park prior to a Tigers game.
The free concert is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and refreshments will follow the program.
‘It’s a good thing the library does,? Teuber said. ‘They definitely will get a good show.?
