An emotional week was capped off by the Lake Orion boys cross country squad’s first ever Oakland County championship last Saturday.
Running in memory of Co-Captain Josh Schrauger, the team dominated the competition, finishing with 113 points, 20 ahead of second-place Milford.
The team was led by Doug Mack’s 13th place individual finish (17:03), followed closely by teammates Sean Bone (19th), Ryan Ziolko (21st), Nathan Ziolko (26th) and Kyle Lawton (34th).
‘I didn’t want our kids not to win it with all they had to go through,? Coach Stan Ford said. ‘They were the favorites, and I wanted them to win because of that, not lose due to the effects of the trauma they went through.??
‘We had lots of people approaching us and giving their condolences which, along with winning, made it a very emotional day,? he added.
Lisa Bandico (21st) and Allie Hock (26th) led the girls squad, which finished 10th overall, with 320 points. Rochester took first, distancing themselves from the field with a 52-point total.?
