Lake Orion Police Chief Jerry Narsh isn’t just the chief for our community, but a chief among chiefs as he serves as the president for the Oakland County Association of Chiefs of Police.
The association, which meets monthly, features hundreds of members that represent police and public safety agencies around the county.
Narsh started years before as the sergeant at arms and worked his way up through the executive committee of the organization after originally being nominated.
‘I’m very humbled and very proud to serve in that capacity and to represent such a fine organization with an incredible reputation of integrity,? he said.
‘I serve with many of the finest minds in law enforcement in the state of Michigan and that is a tremendous asset to Oakland County.?
Narsh said the association was created to help cope with issues that face law enforcement in the county.
He added that they focus on a number of objectives including the advancement of the science and art of police administration and crime prevention, pursuing a high professional standard of conduct by all police officers and the constant evaluation of the ways law enforcement is practiced, applied and taught.
The association also works with law enforcement educational institutions, helping develop the criteria of what is taught to future officers.
It is also a network to share ideas and concepts with the goal to continually improve safety for all residents.
‘The folks that lead law enforcement agencies in this county have tremendous knowledge and ability and, as a result, we have one of the finest and safest counties, I think, in the nation,? Narsh said.
Through the association and Oakland County, initiatives like CLEMIS, Oakland County ‘s Courts and Law Enforcement Management Information System, which promotes data sharing and communication with other law enforcement agencies, are possible.
‘There’s nothing like it in the country,? Narsh said of CLEMIS, adding that sharing information throughout communities is important as ‘bad guys don’t know borders.?
As Narsh continues his service as president for the remainder of the year, he hopes to continue to maintain the ‘ultimate goal of public safety,? a job that he looks forward to every day, through lobbying, communication and technology initiatives, as well as continued education among present and future members of law enforcement.
