Dinner dance benefits local youth

It’s a night designed to combine dinner and dancing all for the benefit of education in Lake Orion.
On Saturday, Nov. 10, the Lake Orion Education Foundation will be hosting An Evening for Education 2 dinner, dance and auction, held at Canterbury Castle starting at 6 p.m.
The event, sponsored by National City, will feature live music by the Dr. Z Group, an instrumental duet from the high school and a celebrity speaker, as well as the dinner, dancing and silent auction.
According to event chair Karen Appledorn, the auction will include a suite at the Palace for a Pistons game, gift certificates to local salons and restaurants, homemade purses and scarves, as well as jewelry and baskets that feature items donated from the 12 buildings in the district.
The baskets, which are all different and include special themes, shows involvement and support for all of Lake Orion’s schools, Education Foundation President Steve Appledorn said.
‘Hopefully we’ll have lively bidding for those,? he added in regards to the schools? baskets.
The variety doesn’t stop at the auction, as those in attendance will enjoy a buffet dinner that features three entrees and different salads and breads, as well as an open bar and a cannoli cake provided by Tower Treats. Dinner will be served as 7 p.m., and to reenergize those in attendance for more bidding and dancing, pizza and hot dogs will be served at 11 p.m.
The semi-formal event netted $25,000 for the Education Foundation the last time it was held, in November 2005. That money goes directly back into Lake Orion schools, and funds the mini-grant program the foundation offers twice a year to local educators.
For those that can’t attend the event, Steve said that the foundation is always accepting donations and thanks everyone for their support.
‘We want to get to and help as many kids as we can,? he said. ‘Good schools are good for everyone. It benefits the community and gives our kids good opportunities.?
And no doubt, it will be a fun night, the Appledorns added.
Tickets are $100 per guest. Only 200 tickets are available for the event and they are going fast.
Those interested in purchasing tickets can contact Steve or Karen Appledorn at (248)814-8872 or visit the district’s homepage and follow the link for the dinner dance.
The Education Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization, and participants will be provided with a tax ID.
