Community ‘very welcoming? to new village clerk, Luick

Since he began his position as Oxford Village Clerk Nov. 12, Daniel Luick has had nothing but positive things to say about the community.
‘It’s a wonderful community,? he said. ‘Everybody’s been extremely friendly and the council’s been very welcoming to me. It’s been a great transition.?
Luick, 32, a resident of Corunna, spent 14? years working for the Village of Vernon, located in Shiawassee County.
Starting as an office assistant, he quickly moved up the ladder to deputy clerk in 1995. Three years later, he was named clerk.
He is a Certified Municipal Clerk and has completed a three-year program from the Michigan Municipal Clerk’s Institute. His annual salary will be $38,500.
Luick said he doesn’t exactly know why he decided to get into the municipal government field, and that it just kind of fell in his lap.
‘It was something I thought would be kind of interesting,? he said. ‘As time went on, I became more and more interested in it.?
Because he knows the ins and outs of being a part of a small village (Vernon had a population of just over 800), Luick’s philosophy is merely to do his job the best way he knows how.
‘I always try to listen to all sides of the story and try to remember that I’m working for the community,? he said. ‘I try to keep that in mind and take it one day at a time.?
In his spare time, Luick said he enjoys shopping, traveling and even doing a bit of his family’s genealogy.
‘It’s a fun pastime,? he said. ‘It’s something you can do at your own pace.?
Luick said he’s always interested in meeting those in the community and welcomes any comments and questions, so don’t hesitate to stop in and introduce yourself.
