Buzzer beater: Hornets sting Martians on final shot

When the dust settled on Tuesday night, Dec.11, just two points separated the Goodrich Martians and the New Lothrop Hornets, who hadn’t lost in 39 games. The Martians lost 54-52.
The Martians showed New Lothrop some heart in the third quarter, cutting an 11-point deficit with 6:30 left. The Martians started the fourth quarter down 40-39.
The Martians tied the game again with a 3-point basket by Colin Angle with 27 seconds left in the game. Later, after New Lothrop took a timeout Goodrich played solid defense, but Brandon Baryo sunk a 2-point field goal to put the New Lothrop Hornets up 54-52.
Goodrich had one last chance with 2 seconds left in the game, but Joe Boisture’s pass to Colin Angle was intercepted by a New Lothrop player.
Boisture had 13 points for Goodrich; Andrew Patrick had 11; and both Angle and Caleb Jones had nine. The team had eight 3-point shots all together, Andrew Patrich leading the team with three of those shots. During the game there was 16 lead changes and nine ties.

The Martians will play Hamaday High School 7:30 p.m., Dec. 18, at home.
