The Goodrich Martians girls basketball team opened the season with a 58-22 win against Atherton High School Dec. 5. Leading the girls was Brittany Bertrand with 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Closely following Bertrand was Kortni Elsworth with 10 points, six steals, and four assists. Jolynn Zirnhelt also had six points and five rebounds. The girls offense wore down Atherton quickly outscoring the team 39-5 in the middle two periods.
‘We shot poorly at times, but our defense was outstanding,? says Goodrich Girls Varsity Basketball Coach Jason Gray.
‘Besides our defense, we pushed the ball on offense and ran the floor far better than we had this season, which created a lot of good offensive opportunities and tired out the opponent. It was great to get strong contributions from every player and I think we’re beginning to see the type of team we can become.?
The Goodrich Martians will take on Byron High School at 7 p.m , Dec. 19 at Goodrich.
