Alumni see grapplers win twice

The Lake Orion wrestling squad improved to 10-2 on the season and 3-1 in OAA I action with a pair of victories at home last Wednesday over Troy Athens and Rochester Adams.
Neither match was really in doubt, as the Dragons opened with a 53-12 win against Athens, then topped Adams 44-12 in the nightcap.
The Athens victory started with a void and three pins, coming from Garrett Roberts (215 pounds), Tyler Benson (heavyweight) and Lance Grzadzinski (103 pounds).
Against Adams, it was the top of the line-up, including Grzadzinski, Jake Pratt (112 pounds), Doug Mack (119 pounds), A.J. Pratt (125 pounds) and Justin Ruddy (130 pounds) that helped to break an early tie and send the Dragons to a win.
Dragon wrestlers that recorded victories in both matches included Grzadzinski, Jake Pratt, Mack, A.J. Pratt, A.J. Fligger (140 pounds), Jake Varilek (152 pounds), Joe Graffeo (160 pounds), Evan Gros (189 pounds) and Roberts.
The night also marked the return of several LOHS wrestling alumni, for the team’s annual Alumni Night.
Among the special honorees were members of the 1990 state champion squad and Tony Uhlmann, a 1977 graduate who was the team’s first-ever state placer (second in ?77 at 119 pounds).
Sporting his old varsity jacket, Uhlmann recalled being a member of Coach Doug Kline’s squad back at the junior high level in 1973.
He made the trip back to Lake Orion from his current residence in Dallas and was impressed with what he saw from Kline’s current squad.
‘I’m glad I’m not wrestling anymore because these guys are pretty tough,? Uhlmann said.
The team competed at the Adrian Duals over the weekend and will host Catholic Central on Parents Night tonight.
