More information has surfaced regarding the settlement between Orion Township and former Assistant to the Supervisor Jill Verros that was finalized earlier this month.
At the time of the settlement, the issue was active in both the county circuit court and the federal court.
A week after the substitution of attorney was filed in October, after Verros had hired Deborah Gordon’s firm as her new representation, the federal court remanded eight of the 11 charges against the township back to Oakland County, with the remaining three staying at the federal level.
Having to defend itself in two different cases was something the township was hoping to avoid, according to multiple sources, given that it would mean higher costs.
Gordon was actually hired in September, not November as was previously reported.
In addition to the $340,000 settlement, the township will also pay costs for their own attorney and some unemployment compensation to Verros, which is believed to bring the total well over $400,000.
Final details on where the settlement money will come from has not yet been released by the township, but stay with The Review for more on this story.
