OES Imagineers imagine the impossible at competition

Using nothing but everyday household items and K’NEX building toys, 15 students from Oxford Elementary School competed in the 10th Annual Imagineers Competition at Summit Place Mall in Pontiac last Saturday.
One of the teams, called Wheelyz, made it to the final round with their invention of a wheelchair that could go up stairs. Each team member received $25.
Imagineers is a design contest for fifth-graders. It challenges the students to build something that will fill a need or solve a problem in the world today.
Judging is based on creativity, functionality, integrity of construction, conformance to submitted design and how well they use their two ‘mystery? items as part of their design.
‘The Imagineers Club gives fifth grade students a chance to participate in a team activity in which they can be creative, inventive and have fun,? said Mary Kraniak, sponsor for the club. ‘All our participants worked hard and contributed to the success of their teams. I am proud of each and every one of them.?
