A 53-year-old Oxford man died early Friday morning after a severe automobile crash in the village, Thursday shortly after 9 p.m.
According to the police report, Paul W. Chordash, Jr. was driving a 2004 Jeep Cherokee, traveling northbound on Washington St. when he crossed the double yellow line at First St. and entered into the southbound flow of traffic. He hit a 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora head-on that was traveling southbound and rolled his vehicle onto its roof.
The 24-year-old Oxford woman driver and her 23-year-old passenger, also from Oxford, were both transported to POH Medical Center in Pontiacl for their injuries.
The Oxford man was also transported by the Oxford Fire Department to POH, where he passed away eight to 10 hours later, according to Dept. Harry Joseph of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU).
Joseph said they may never know exactly what caused the man to veer into oncoming traffic. ‘We don’t believe there was alcohol involved, but there could’ve been prescription drugs (due to some medical issues Chordash reportedly had),? he said, noting the follow-up investigation will be handled by the village police department.
Village police are currently awaiting a report from the Oakland County Medical Examiner.
