The Dragons head to Battle Creek as the state’s sixth-ranked team, according to Michigan Grappler.
The only problem is that the top five teams all qualified for the quarterfinals as well.
The quarters will pit #1 Davison against #10 Canton and #2 Holt against #5 Hartland on one side of the draw, and #3 Rockford against #4 Temperance Bedford and the Dragons against unranked L’Anse Creuse on the other side.
Lake Orion is an obvious favorite in their first match, slated for 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
L’Anse Creuse enters at 35-7 on the season, while Lake Orion is 33-4 overall. For comparison’s sake, the Dragons have seven wrestlers qualified for the individual state meet, while L’Anse Creuse will send three.
Davison and Rockford have the most state qualified wrestlers, with 10 each.
Should they win Friday, the Dragons would then take the underdog’s role in the 11:45 a.m. Saturday semifinal.
Review Editor Colin Baumgartner will be reporting live from the event, offering updates on both the Dragons and Oxford (competing in the Division II finals), so visit www.lakeorionreview.com Friday and Saturday for periodic updates.
