Both eighth-grade volleyball teams had a goal going into their last game of the season.
The Blue team had lost two games during the season, one of them to the Gold team. They wanted to end their season with a win against their sister team.
Gold team’s goal was to hold onto their undefeated record.
The Blue team came out on top, winning the game, 2-1.
‘Being the Varsity coach, it’s good to see that we split,? said Blue team’s coach Kelly Avenall. ‘I think that’s the best way to see it end is for us to split and not one taking both. That is the best competition for us, to play each other. It’s a good sign for Clarkston volleyball.?
‘We were hoping to go undefeated, but it didn’t happen,? said Gold team coach Katie Coon. ‘We knew they would be tough. The Blue team is always our most competition.?
The Blue team won the first match, 25-21, and third match, 21-1.
In the second match, the Gold team was behind but then pulled ahead for a win, 25-20.
Both teams practiced together during the season and would separate on game day.
Blue ended the season with a record, 7-2, and Gold ended, 8-1.
‘They are awesome kids and they played really hard,? said Coon. ‘They came a really long way and it was a fun season. They will be super talented for next year. I am excited to see how they do. They were good with some really good matches. They are a great group of kids.?
‘I am proud of the way both teams played,? said Avenall.
‘I am very proud of my team. All season Coach Coon and I worked with both teams together. They both played great volleyball.?
